  2. Sport/club: Rowing/ RGU BC
  3. What’s your sporting story?

I started rowing at school with the local rowing club ASRA. From starting 8 years ago I have raced across Britain and the world for both my clubs and team GB.  I had tried lots of sports before rowing and never really excelled as much as when I got in a boat.

  1. What was the biggest challenge in your sporting career so far and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been training and racing for the last 18 months without a coach to support me in Aberdeen. This is difficult as I have to motivate myself everyday to go and train by myself. To overcome this I have had to seek coaching and support from outside Aberdeen which involves travelling across the UK.

  1. What attracted you to becoming a “Goal Model”?

To encourage kids to take part in any sport more often.

  1. How important to you is it to get young people into sport and leadership?

Sport is a vital part of being a healthy child and the benefits of taking part in sport aren’t just the physical fitness benefits the discipline involved with being part of a sports team is a great way to help children along the road to a successful life,

  1. What would you recommend to young people in Aberdeen who want to become more involved with sport?

Try as many different sports as you can and take every opportunity which is given to you. There are many different clubs around the city so just get in contact with them and I’m sure they will make it easy for you to come along.

  1. Who inspired you when you were younger and why?

I have always been inspired by successful sportsman particularly rowers racing for GB.  I feel inspired by these people because rowers don’t get paid a huge amount of money which means they are all in it because they love the sport.

  1. If you had the same opportunity in sport again, what would you do differently?

I am happy with my current position in the sport but of course I would change some of the small decisions that I have made.

  1. Why should young people in Aberdeen get involved with the Denis Law Streetsport programme?

Streetsport is a great chance for kids to enjoy playing sports on a regular basis. It provides fantastic sports provision for free to hundreds of kids a year and best of all its free for everyone!
